The Bukonzo Organic Farmers Co-operative Union (BOCU) is committed to sustainable coffee production in Western Uganda. The Union is made up of 1,975 smallholder farmers, the majority of whom are women. BOCU has invested in social programs and technical training for its members and continues to push for better coffee production. To that end, producers have established shade trees throughout their farms, allowing coffee to be shielded from the sun. Producers have also built terraces and planted ground cover crops to help manage erosion. This results in delicious coffees grown at 1200-1500 meters in the Rwenzori Mountains of Western Uganda. 1) ROASTING COFFEE to perfection is truly an art, a distinct set of skills developed over time with experience. The most basic description of the roasting process would be that the beans need to be heated to around 400*F in about 7-12 minutes and then cooled quickly. As heat is applied the beans will change in color from green to yellow, to ever darkening shades of brown, once the roast level desired is achieved beans are cooled quickly. 2) ABOUT US - We are award-winning family operated coffee supplier.
